An anecdote heard at a lecture by Sparky Imeson this past weekend... It seems there was this student pilot doing touch and go's at a controlled field. While he was in the downwind leg, another airplane lost power during the takeoff roll and ended up sitting in the middle of the runway. The tower calls the student to allert him: TOWER: Cessna eight-nine Romeo, go around, disabled aircraft on the runway. 89R: eight-nine Romeo, Roger. The student continues on his downwind, pulls power at the numbers, and then turns base... TOWER: Cessna eight-nine Romeo, GO AROUND, disabled aircraft on the runway! 89R: eight-nine Romeo, Roger. Student continues flying base leg, turns final - the controller is now frantic... TOWER: Cessna eight-nine Romeo, you MUST GO AROUND, disabled aircraft on the runway!!! 89R: eight-nine Romeo. The student brings it in, full flaps, executes a perfect short field landing, taxies around the disabled aircraft, and takes off!! TOWER: Sigh... - Dave Pellerin ..uw-beaver!entropy!dataio!dbp ^------------------------Not really a Marine Mammal, but close...
