#N::35400002:000:503 !mls Jul 18 17:39:00 1984 Has anybody had experience with the David Clark headset with the electret mike. I spoke to one person who has had the mike replaced several times. They have replaced it for free. I compared the outside noise reduction of the headset only with a Telex that is about 10 years old. The David Clarks were noticely better. I am considering buying the David Clark with the electret mike. Any suggestions pro or con? Any suggestions of where to buy for a good price? Irv McNair ATT Bell Labs, Whippany

[NOT a paid political endorsement] I've been using a David Clark H10-40 headset with the electret mike for ~ 5 years now (I fly about 75 - 100 hours/year) and haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Works rather well, actually. --------------------------------------------------------------------- From the flapping feathers of | The above text does not in any ...decwrl!rhea!raven1!Bluejay | represent the views, thoughts, or on the DEC Enet, | or anything else or any person, Raven1::Bluejay | institution, orgination, company, | or sentient being, other than | [perhaps] myself.

You can purchase cloth muffs which you can use to cover the plastic headset seals. People claim that the muffs solve the problem which you mention. Frank Greco ihnp4!ihuxj!fjg

I phoned David Clark to find out what the similarities and differences between the H10-40 and H10-80 headsets were. Similarities: they use the same microphone and earphone transducer. The headband and cushion are also the same. real differences: The -80 mike is mounted on a flexible gooseneck with the wiring inside it. It is supposed to be easier to adjust than the three-adjustment wire boom used on the other DC headsets. The stirrups that hold the earcups are different, resulting in less clamping pressure being applied to the head. This makes the headset more comfortable and reduces the attenuation by 3dB. (though I wonder if you couldn't get the same effect with one of the other headsets just by bending the headband spring a bit). The -80 is actually about 2 oz heavier. It has a volume control for each ear; the -40 has only a single control. cosmetic differences: Black paint on headband and mike boom on the -80 vs chrome on the other headsets. A thin layer of foam between your ear and the ear transducer. A new earmuff design. comment: If they were the same price, I would go for the -80 and try the new mike boom. But the price difference isn't justified to me.

Anyone have any experience with these "low cost" mail order houses which sell DC H10-30's for about $140 ? I promised my self I'd get a pair when I got my ticket (YEA! all of two weeks old!) I'd hate to mail a check and then get burned; Sporty's is so reliable but rather on the expensive side.... I have bought 2 David Clark Headsets and push to talk switches, plus a two station Sigtronics intercom from mail order houses and have been very happy with the $$ saved. The equipment has been in steady use for over 2 years. It was packed in original manuf. boxes and was first quality. I would recommend any of the mail order houses advertised in Trade-A-Plane

I've had good luck from Marv Golden Discount Products. He seems to have the lowest prices of them all and ships the same day (on everything I've ordered anyway). I recieved a pair of the Dave Clark H10-80's from him less than 24 hours after I called. btw - the H10-80's are the easiest to wear of all them for long periods of time. They don't rest on your ears, rather they fit snugly around them. Bret Marquis (sdcsvax,ihnp4)!bang!bam

Recently there was a discussion on where was the best place (read inexpensive) to buy a David Clark headset. Now that I'm in the market for one, those messages are not readily available. Could one of the people involved please send me a recommendation (or two) for a place to order from. Thanks. -edh
