The 1986 edition of the Aviation Consumer Used Aircraft Guide has been announced. This is a "must buy" book for anyone considering buying an airplane... new OR used! The price is $22, and unfortunately I lost the order sheet from AC or I'd post the address. But Sporty's and other such shops will be picking it up, right quick. The book covers a wide variation of General Aviation aircraft, incuding Aeroncas, T-Crafts, nearly all Cessnas since WWII (120, 140, 150, 152, 172, 180,182, 195, 310, etc), all other common lightplanes (single engine, twin, 2/4/6+ pax, retract, fixed, helicopters, Acro), and some special items like Stearmans, T-6s, Pitts Specials, etc. (Did you know that a T-6 costs nearly the same to own and operate as a Bonanza?) Information on each type includes: Model evolution, including engines, when the tail was swept, etc AD notes, with comments on cost of compliance Maintenance history, such as how reliable the engines are, what items commonly require maintenance, things to look (out) for, cost of annuals Safety Record (did you realize the "Yankee" series (AA-1, 1A, 1B) has an accident rate THREE TIMES that of the 150?) Available mods "Average" price Value history In addition, it includes general safety information concerning General Aviation. For those not familiar with Aviation Consumer, it is the "Consumer's Report" of private aviation... no advertising, very concious of the safety and reliability records of GA. I highly recommend this book, and my copy will be delivered soon (Based most of my comments on the 1981 edition). Ron Wanttaja (ssc-vax!wanttaja)
