I heard about one 177RG pilot who couldn't extend the gear due to
what turned out to be a slow hydraulic leak.  He (correctly) reasoned
that if he could put any fluid at all into the reservoir (which
can be reached from inside the airplane) that would at least allow
him to get the gear down, and that a new gear hydraulic system was
cheaper than a new airplane.  The only fluid handy happened to be
in his bladder, but that did it.
