[net.aviation] FOG clearing

GEERT@BITNIC (Geert K. Marien) (03/05/86)

Out here, when they want to clear fog, they send out a 747 (which can take
off in very poor visability). This clears the fog somewhat and raises
the visability a bit, so then they can send out, say, a DC-9, or similar.

Of course, this could be thought of as cheating, but you would be left in
awe at the RVR reading improvements after just 1 747 takeoff ....

Once, after a Pan Am 747 took off, you could see up to the open sky!

Anyone else seen this?

hmmm ..... and where does the 747 land afterwards? or is it clear long
enough to allow a safe landing again ??? aren't the landing requirements
even more stringent than the take-off requirements? sounds fishy to me ....
