I recently had some dual scheduled to work on short field procedures. On the appointed day it was blowing 25 kts out of the NW so I said "why don't we do xwind touch & gos instead?". Well folks, if my instructor had not been aboard, I definitely would have bent alot of metal. The point is that if there is a healthy wind (something that can develop quickly on the coast) and I HAVE to land in a hurry on a field that requires a xwind landing, I'm in trouble. To me, this is unacceptable. I intend on getting good at strong xwind procedures. I suspect that many other private pilots have similar deficiencies and that it might be a good idea to practice procedures that have been on your shelf since the student days. And get some dual.
