[net.aviation] Ann Landers column, Nov 16.

From Ann Landers (not Dear Abby's) column Sunday, Nov 16:

"As a consumer, I believe the small, privately owned aircraft that
wanders into *commercial aircraft space* presents a serious danger to
all who fly. These private planes should be forced by law to carry more
radar and collision avoidance equipment, and they should be banned from
all major airports during peak hours. This is easier said than done,
since the private aircraft are owned by fat cats who have a lot of clout
in Washington."

PLEASE, for Pete's sake, do me a favor,- do yourself a favor, -do a
favor for all GA pilots when you write. If you send a letter to Ann
Landers, or to your congressman, the AOPA, or to anybody, please recheck
for spelling errors, complete sentences and continuity. What you are
doing when you write a seventh grade flunky letter full of mistakes is
draw attention to the illiteracy of GA pilots. How can someone who
can't write an intelligent composition be trusted in our skys?

Writing a bad letter produces the opposite effect for which it was
intended. It just adds more fuel to the flames of those who want to
yank us out of the sky. Let someone else read your work. You might
just produce a better letter and get your point across.

---------------------------------------------------------------

To the educated pilot, look at what a predjudiced jerk this turkey makes
of herself. Of course, this comment comes from a frustrated non-pilot
airline-flying citizen. The words are misguided and a little strong but
the plea for safe skys is real. As a general aviation pilot I don't
want to see any accidents as much as - even more so than the non-pilot.

I have wondered what the outcome of the LA crash would be. This time
the news portrays the FAA as acting faster than it has in the past with
larger TCAs and more equipment requirements. This time public outcry is
stronger.

Tailwinds to ya,
