For the first time in over a year, we are starting to get low on space for storing files. The situation is not yet a crisis, but it soon will be unless something is done. Please take a good close look at your files, NOW, and clean house. Get rid of anything you don't need. My own space use dropped by 30% when I did this (to my great surprise!). That was WITHOUT moving anything to tape. The shortage isn't bad enough yet for things like mass movement of files to tape. But it's time to get rid of the trash. It's easy to be sloppy about this when there's plenty of space; those days are over for a while. It may well be that YOU don't have any unnecessary files around -- but take a look. I suspect that a thorough cleanup will end the problem for now. We hope to clear up the trouble with the magtape soon, which will help too.
