As a result of the Computer Committee meeting last Thursday, we are reducing some of our rates. Effective now, the $1/hr surcharge for use of the phone lines is being eliminated. Furthermore, the basic connect-time rate for "external" users (non-Zoology) is being cut from $2.50/hr to $1.50/hr. Other reductions are possible soon. We are, however, proceeding with something that has been in the offing for some time: charging for line-printer output, to recover the costs we incur in providing it. The rate has not been set yet but, based on our paper costs, it will probably be between 1 and 2 cents per page. (For comparison, the Sanders rate is 8c/page and the rate for the new laser printer is tentatively 5c/page.)
