[general] high-quality printing

henry@utzoo.UUCP (Henry Spencer) (01/17/85)

As most of you know, our main high-quality printer -- the Sanders -- has
been out of order for quite some time. It has been very unreliable in
the last year or so, and the absence of local maintenance support has
made things much worse. The latest replacement parts from Sanders didn't
help; it's still broken. The NEC printer has been filling in for it, but
the NEC is not really set up for bulk printing. We realize that this
mess has caused problems for our customers. We don't like it much either.

Help is on the way. Many of you have already used our new Hewlett-Packard
laser printer, which produces superb print quality and is much faster than
the Sanders. The main limitation of the HP has been that it prints only
in a 10-per-inch font, and most of our customers prefer 12-per-inch. HP
has just announced a 12-per-inch font for the laser printer, and we have
ordered it. Soon (two weeks??) our laser printer will provide 12-per-inch
printing, and it will replace the Sanders as our main high-quality printer.
We're sorry this has taken so long; please be patient a bit longer.
