The `status' command checks to see if you have any jobs waiting for execution (in a batch queue) or waiting for printing (in a printer queue). If it finds any such jobs, it will show the entire queue, so that you will have some idea of how long you will have to wait for your printout. Since `status' now provides this additional information, there will probably be little need to use the `batchq' command. Note that there are several numbered batch queues. Queue #0 is reserved for very small jobs that will complete quickly. Queue #1 is for somewhat larger jobs, and so on. The top job in any particular batch queue is currently executing; others in the *same* queue are waiting for the first one to complete before they start execution. In printer queues, the top job in the queue is the one currently printing; the others are waiting behind it. In general, jobs move through the printer queues fairly quickly. -- David Trueman @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!david
