What???? "only mediocre???" Now, I'm not much of a Genesis fan, but I think
Phil Collins is the best rock drummer around (vis. his work in Genesis and
Brand X [esp. Brand X]). I think that, if you heard some of the stuff he did
with Brand X (this group was his idea), you'd change your mind. By the way,
Brand X also has one of the best bass players around, Percy Jones.

P.S. I think Bill Bruford is also up there with Collins.

P.P.S. Despite this posting, I'm really not interested in rating musicians.
Being a musician myself, this business of who is better than whom is
really boring (as well as being bullshit). If you met (or played with)
those people who make their living playing music, you'd find that
they are all fine musicians; their style might not be to your taste,
but they are all (Madonna included) professionals.

My opinion is that Bruford is way beyond anywhere Phil Collins
is ever gonna be. Bruford continues to redefine rock drumming
(if you still want to call it that - I think it's more like
jazz but I'll just call it music) whereas Phil Collins does
slight variations on himself. Anyone who likes what he does
now should listen to "Wal to Wal" on Product by Brand X to
see where THAT came from.

By the way, I agree. Percy Jones kicks ass.
