Reinstituted news checking by adding "checknews" to all .profiles, fixing newuser(1) to do so automatically in future, and fixing up the motd. This does have one minor wart: checknews takes a few seconds to run if your subscription list is big. This is inherently unfixable with the way B news organizes things.
