The old-news archives have been reshuffled a bit. Everything is now under /usr/spool/oldnews. In there, "cur" is the directory into which expire(8) puts expiring articles. The a* directories are old A news, indexed by the aindex file. The software is now set up to rename "cur" periodically to a name of the form b<number>, to control its growth.
