[net.math] quadric surfaces

I have been looking at a ray traceing algorithm that uses quadric
surfaces. This is a 10 term polynomial. Is there anyone out there
that can point me to a document that describes how to easily define
surfaces in a cookbook fasion. I have heard that there was such a 
document that said for "x" these terms do this .
