I couldn't get hold of anybody useful at Sanders today (possibly because my call came rather late in the afternoon). Some more experimenting has given a much better picture of what's going on. It's like this: With top/bottom margins turned on: - page length is consistently 3/8 inch longer than requested - top margin is stuck at 1+1/2 inches With top/bottom margins turned off: - text prints for exactly the page length, followed by about 1+3/8 inch of unwanted space Will try for Sanders again tomorrow.
