Made some minor mods to the way uucp handles our network calling. Added a facility to wait extra-long for a response from the other end -- the standard delay is inadequate when waiting for a long-distance call to complete. '~' on the beginning of an expected response means to use triple the normal (15 s) patience. Fixed L.sys to use this, and also to send phone numbers to the modem slowly instead of in one burst. Why this last, you ask? Some testing has tentatively suggested that the modem is more reliable at completing calls when the phone number is sent slowly. I haven't the foggiest idea why, but it doesn't make much of a difference to anything else, so...
