The A-news archives have been moved to tape. This covers all news up to about 3 months ago. The two tapes NEWS1.A and NEWS1.B are identical (for insurance against tape errors) tapes in tar format, blocked at 10240 bytes. Said archives comprised nearly 11000 articles, occupying 28000 blocks of disk space on /usr.
