Unix will continue in full operation over the Christmas holidays, for the benefit of people who want to work then. Backups will be done as usual Thursday the 23rd, after which there will be none until January. (It is possible that a backup will be done on the 28th or 29th, but this is not guaranteed.) Computer Systems staff will be on holiday and will not be available for help. Any staff members who do happen to be around during holidays should be assumed to be off duty, to be consulted only in extreme emergency. Equipment failures that result in system shutdowns may last unusually long since there may be nobody around to bring the system back up. Merry Christmas to all users.
