The servo board of the disk drive failed at about 0911 this morning. This was not noticed until early afternoon, by which time an impressive stack of error messages had accumulated (since the stupid disk driver was still trying to get results!). Matt came in and replaced the servo board; system then booted flawlessly and we decided not to mess with it further just now.
