There have been persistent problems when doing single-user operations (backups, reboots) which seem (very tentatively) to be associated with the unfortunate proximity of the RUBOUT key to the RETURN key on the console terminal. In an attempt to reduce these hassles, I've diddled the software so that the backups and the reboot procedure set the "interrupt" character to be control-C instead. Both procedures announce the change as they make it, to be as explicit as possible about what's going on.
