/dev/lp has been given the same protections as /dev/sp against direct use (e.g. "foo >/dev/lp"). This is partly in anticipation of line- printer accounting and partly because misuse of direct access to the line printer may have caused the mysterious line-printer stoppage on Friday (which I'm still investigating).
