Various auxiliary files used by nroff and troff -- macros, terminal tables, font files, etc. -- have moved from subdirectories under /usr/lib to subdirectories under /lib/troff. The purpose is mostly to put them on the root filesystem. Root is intended to hold most heavily-used things, and these files certainly qualify. Aside from possible performance improvements, putting them on root also makes it much easier for us to run without a /usr in a pinch. The only leftover is /usr/adm/tracct, an accounting file we don't use anyway. I also took the opportunity to change the internal name of the format macro set from "test" to "zoo" -- a long-overdue removal of an ancient historical artifact. The various subdirectories of /usr/lib will continue to exist for a few days just in case. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
