Well, after a conference with Dan Crook today, the disk situation is looking a bit better. The UNIXA5 pack, which turned up bad after being on drive A for a total of three hours, will be replaced with a new one. (Probably the pack we are now running as a loaner, in fact.) UNIXA4 will be refurbished by PMI and then swapped for one of Terabit's diagnostic packs. The purpose of the swap is to give us a certified- perfect pack; refurbishing only brings packs up to flag-free status. As soon as we have a second pack in the door, we will attempt to run production on drive A for a while, to check it out. The last batch of repairs seem to have worked, but we're a little hesitant about trying it out until we can do a pack-to-pack copy as insurance. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
