Yesterday drive A started getting large numbers of errors on head 3. Since I feared that it was getting worse, I shut the system down. I attempted to switch to drive B but had no luck. Thus, we waited for the disk maintenance people to come at 1100 today. It seems that there was something mechanically wrong with head 3, such that it required settling time after a seek. They replaced it. They also checked out drive B and found it to be badly out of alignment (probably settling after the reconstruction job that Matt did). They realigned it and we successfully booted from it. After full connection of both drives, we are back running on drive A. -- David Trueman @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!david
