As an experiment, su(1) has been changed so that when su'ing to a system userid (numeric uid < 100), the prompt is not "> " but "name> ", where "name" is the userid one is su'ing to. This avoids the problem of getting confused over which system user one is right now. It looks a bit odd, on trying it; we'll see if we get used to it. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry

The mod to su(1) to make it put the user name in the prompt when su'ing to a system user has worked out fairly well. It has now been extended to all uses of su, with a minor change in the syntax of the resulting prompt to make it a bit easier to pick out of output. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
