The downtime this afternoon sufficed to install and test (well, as much as we could) our second Emulex CS11 ("DH11"). It's in and it seems to work, although its interrupt vector is almost certainly set wrong (this doesn't actually matter until we try to use it at the same time as the existing DH). The only minor problem was that some twit somewhere sent us a 15-foot cable when we ordered a 25-footer, and so for the moment the cable is draped over Ampex B rather than being under the floor like it should be. The Micos man has promised us a 25-foot cable within a week. The thing will not be operational for a little while yet. Apart from minor annoyances like the short cable and the probable need for some shuffling to get the distribution panel down in the right place (the cables for some of the DZ lines probably aren't long enough to stretch to the top position where the new DH distribution panel is right now, argh), some software work is needed. It's more than just reconfiguring the driver for one more DH, because the dialin/dialout mods for handling the phone lines currently exist only in the DZ driver. They'll have to be fitted into the DH driver before we go to full production without a DZ. In the course of installing the second DH, we pulled the SMC controller out (hooray!) and moved the SC31 to the spot where the SMC used to be. This gives us still more room inside the box, and bypasses the need to cut a backplane jumper to install the DH. -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
