I decided to look up the closed form to the cubic, which is indeed in CRC's Standard Math Tables, and implement it. I like C, so I wrote it in C. I commented the code in some detail explaining what I was doing, which is just as well. It turns out the C lack of a complex data type makes this particular application pretty complex, so to speak.
