[hacknews] new daemons, spoolers

david@utzoo.UUCP (David Trueman) (02/26/85)

We are now running new versions of hpd, lpd, cpd, lpr, hpr and cpr.

The spoolers (?pr) now check for (and reject) attempts to print
directories and report on the trailer page the number of pages printed.
There has been some internal reorganization to accomodate a new print
status command (coming soon, to screen near you!). Hpr and cpr have
had their motion optimization improved. They also support a new option
to specify a font requirement; more on this later.

The daemons (?pd) now check that the mounted font as given in FONTFILE
in the spool directory matches one requested by the spooler. This
provides a mechanism (coming soon . . .) for changing fonts without
messing up anyone's output.
