[hacknews] page counting in spoolers and daemons fixed

david@utzoo.UUCP (David Trueman) (06/05/85)

Page counting is now centralized in the spoolers which have a better chance
of doing it right. They insert page markers in the spool file, which the
print daemon believes. This does away with the hassle of trying to track
the LaserJet's graphic sequences in both the spooler and the daemon, and
makes it possible to get accounting and usage statistics right even if a
print job is cancelled.

The right place to count pages is in the printer, but unfortunately our
printers won't talk back to us.
