Two of us here have written a program that takes the output files of empire (maps, census, spys, etc.) and displays on the screen the map with information lines at the bottom. You can move the cursor around the map, the bottom lines show information about the sector where the cursor is currently sitting, do surveys of the land, perform ? type commands and save commands in an output file. For example, you could type in ?civ>100 and all sectors with civilians greater than 100 would be highlighted. If anyone is interested just send me some mail.
