I am using Pascal to write a data acquisition program for our lab. I have a problem concerning the possibility of using Fourier Transform to find the period of a function (say sin(2*pi*f*t) ) superimposed by exp(-t) type of function. (i.e. overall of the function looks like exp(-t) * sin (wt) . My job is to find w using programing instead of visually counting the dip position of the data coming out of the experiment. I am new to Fourier Transform. Can anyone tell me if this is feasible ? Will the spectrum have a large peak at w so that I can easily pick it up ? I am too lazy lately to go through the math on the paper. Please send me any info through mail . thanks . HP (wei@princeton)
