<> I figured that would get your attention. I'm trying to see who has decompiled some of the various routines out in net-land. Several people have mentioned to me that there are fully-decompiled source versions wandering around out there, but they all seem to be ancient. I have decompiled some of the semi-recent (1982) empire code and improved the i/o greatly. If we could merge some of the decompilation efforts and I could farm out some new decompilation tasks to willing people, it would be relatively simple to get a working version done in a few months time (now that I think about it, someone else mentioned this same thing before). There's a lot of folks out there who want empire on system V (yuck). Well, since they're part of the UNIX community I suppose it would be a good idea to help them along. We 4.2 types have "modern" binaries, but the sys V people do not. What I propose is that people post to this newsgroup (or send to me) a list of routines they have .c files for (no empglb.c or empmod.c, please!). Include the (approximate) version date of your empire game. I will make a list of these, request copies of the .c files, and attempt to fill in myself the missing files. This way we can get a working empire source which will be available for everyone to use, abuse, and mis-use. No matter what happens, I will make publicly available such things that come in to those who ask. Oh yes -- I'll give appropriate credit in the comment headers to those who contribute (who will no doubt go down in UNIX history), so send in your contribution today! Please do not post the .c files themselves. Here's what I have (empire version 1982): buil.c chec.c coas.c fly.c info.c nuke.c caploss.c powe.c repo.c spy.c torp.c sectdamage.c chkfsc.c getele.c getstarg.c getstring.c xytoa.c update.c mapdsq.c pr.c prmptrd.c same.c xytoa.c sigsave.c whatitem.c wu.c deto.c empdis.c empire.c Dave "a megaton of prevention" Pare
