I am in urgent need for information related to various HUNT
GROUP architectures at a phone company Central Office.
Specific questions I have in mind are listed below, and they
apply to 1ESS, 5ESS, and Cross Bar switches.
1. What is the maximum capacity of a Hunt Group?
2. Can a Hunt Group be gracefully expanded ?
3. What kinds of distribution algorithm for assigning
calls to lines are used for a Hunt Group in a Central
Office?
4. What types of failure modes are there? and how would
each of them affect the Hunt Group operation?
5. How would a large number of lines come into a computer
center facility? (The number of lines I have in mind
is in the thousands!) Do you use T1 or what?
My problem is classic for anybody who wants to offer a
dial-in computing service for a very large number of users.
I also have other headaches such as how to stop the hunt
group from assigning calls to a particular Frontend machine
if the machine fails. If you know of a good solution or a
pointer to some information sources, please let me know.
If you wonder why haven't I talked to my friendly local
phone company yet, that is because
1. I don't know for sure where the service is going to be
offered.
2. Besides, I would like to be prepared before I start
talking to them.
Thank you for your time.
