Sprint carries intra-LATA calls because they don't have equipment to check source and destination of call and block intra-LATA calling. The State PUC has told them they are "not authorized" to carry intra-LATA calls, but has not ordered them to install blocking equipment which would be expensive. They have simply told them they may not advertise the fact that their equipment can be used for intra-LATA calling. Pacific Bell of course, can advertise that they ARE the only "authorized" intra-LATA carrier. Marvin Sirbu
