[net.video] query re: VHS stereo / Dolby audio track

I recently acquired some VHS cartridges with stereo audio tracks.
Some say "stereo/Dolby", some say "stereo/mono compatible".
The latter include "Star Wars I" and "Hair".  Are they in fact
not Dolby encoded?  I read somewhere that you have to go with
Dolby for stereo just to bring the quality back to un-Dolby'd
mono.
