[net.video] Why aren't there "cable ready" VCRs?

Most new TV models with electronic tuning come equipped for receiving
most unscrambled cable TV channels.  Does anyone know why VCR's don't
contain the same type of tuner?  Having such a tuner would eliminate
the need for a separate cable converter for the VCR and would permit full
use of the timer mechanism to program in advance the channels and times
of shows you want to record.
