[net.video] VCR copying

rb@houxn.UUCP (06/24/83)

Regarding the VCR copying query, my experience has been
that there is little point in trying to copy a tape
at a "better" speed than the source, i.e. if the input
is at 6 hours .. don't bother making a 2 hour copy.
You can't get better than the original anyway.

Also, at least on MY portable, I can run separate audio/video
lines to another and not have to go to RF patching.
I notice a slightly better copy using audio/video lines
over RF. The mod/de-modulate process DOES lose something.

As far as making special cords, I use some RG59 (75 ohm) antenna
cable with RCA phono connectors on the end for video, and a
standard audio cable for audio. In a pinch though, I have used
an ordinary stereo pair of cables for both with no serious
degradation (as long as the cable is short ...< 1 foot).
