[net.video] Equipment Review

On Tuesday (8/9), I had a very unique demo from a dealer in my area (Lowell,
MA). He showed me Hitachi's latest "craze" in 1/2" VCR's. The model is the
VT-680MA. What makes this unit different from most of the other 1/2" machines
is that it has its own 4" (diag) monitor built right into the deck. The picture
quality was excellent for a monitor of its size.
The VT-680MA has a 4 head system (the becoming standard in 1/2"), hand-
held remote controller that handles all the standard functions like play, stop,
etc, but also does audio dubbing and a crude form of video editing (no rollback)
The package that Hitachi is offering is the VCR, camera (VK-C200 with
14:1 zoom), Carrying case ( the vcr weighs only 15 lbs), batteries, A/C power
supply, and all the other goodies that are too numerous to mention.
The total cost for the whole package is about $2,500.00. The salesman
told me that several school systems in the area purchased this unit because of
the versitality and the price. Its a very fine unit all around, and is worth c
checking into if your serious about video and don't have the $$ for a 3/4" set-
up (like myself).
I have the literature if anyone is interested.
