The availability question is an interesting one. I've had a Beta
machine (Sony 5800) for about two and a half years and for a while,
I felt that the VHS people had a better selection of movies, but my
ideas on that have changed. Of late, when I go to a movie store, I
often look at the VHS tapes to see if anything interesting is available,
and I seldom see anything (that I want to watch) that I can't find
in Beta (though perhaps at a different store). Also, on weekend
nights, the VHS tapes are totally picked over while there's usually
a pretty good selection of Beta tapes around. I don't know how it
might be in other areas of the country, but here in Tucson, I think
that Beta has the upper hand. If I had to replace my machine, I'd
go with Beta again.
