I just finished going through the process of looking around and deciding which VCR to buy myself. I came to the conclusion that I wanted a Beta-HiFi unit and that I wanted a Sony. So it came down to the SL-5200, SL-2700 and the SL-2710. I ruled out the SL-5200 because the 2700 and 2710 had some features that I wanted. (Electronic channel tuning mainly.) Both the 2700 and 2710 have many special features. The 2700 has more of these features though. I went with the 2710 however, not just because I didn't need those extra features, but because of an interesting difference. Both units are "cable-ready", but BEWARE of this term when buying ANY video equipment. The 2700 does NOT receive the cable hyper-band channels, giving it the common "105 channel capability". The 2710 does receive these channels, giving it "169 channel capability". If your cable system convertor box has more than 35 channels, the "105 channel capability" units will NOT pick up all of the possible channels on your system. Also note that all the "channel capability" in the world does mean much if there are only 14 channel pushbuttons on the unit. The capability to tune all those channels is kind of useless if only 14 can be used at a time. Finally, the SL-2710 is great! The SL-5200 may be all you really want, but Beta-HiFi is definitly worth it. -- # # #### ###### # # # # ## ## # # # # # ## # # # # # # # # # # # # # Bob Fabrizio # # # #### #### # # # # # seismo!rlgvax!bob # # # # # # # # ## # # # # * # ##### # #
