[net.video] HELP needed with TV problems...

I am posting this to .video because the problems with my TV seem strange
enough for a repairman to tell me there is really nothing wrong, or that
they are "unreproducable". I am hoping for responses that will allow me
to bring the TV to a repairman with some initial explanations (or at least
guesses) of what's wrong.

I own a Mitsubishi CS1960R monitor/TV. I think the color reproduction is
fantastic, and have no problem with that. Problems follow:

Most tuning is done with a remote control. While tuning between stations the
TV mutes the sound to avoid interstation noise. Sometimes when first tuning
to a station the picture will tune in fine, but the sound will not come back
for 5-30 seconds, and then when it does come back it will sometimes go away
and come back at intervals of 1-2 seconds. Occasionally the interval problem
will happen after I have been tuned to a station for over half an hour.

The remote control is infared and sometimes does not work when pointed at the
TV at particular angles (but still in the general direction of the TV) I have
attributed this to the fact that the viewing area is within five feet of the
TV - is that possible ?

When the TV is in mute mode (sound off through a button on the remote) it will
occasionally flip back on for no apparent reason. It doesn't seem possible
that a stray infared signal may do that.

Sometimes when a scene fades to black or fades to or from a station break I
hear a crackling sound (like a static discharge or something) from the back of
the TV. Is this normal ?

Mitsubishi claims that the TV has a comb filter, yet when there are titles on
the screen, or line images (like for photo outlines on the news), or fine
herringbone/stripe patterns in clothing I get a considerable amount of picture
shimmer in that area, or moving color patterns in the clothing. Is it possible
for comb filters to fail drastically, are they lying about it's existence, or
am I expecting too much from it ?

Any suggestion would reay be appreciated !
