I am shopping around for a color video camera for my VHS portable ( a
Hitachi ), and find the choice difficult. I would like the camera to
be small and light , but need advice on other features :
o Are the new MOS cameras any good ? ( the RCA for example )
o Is auto focus an important feature to have ?
o What is a review button for ?
o How easy is it to ruin a tube by pointing it at bright lights ?
o Will an RCA or JVC camera retain it's features with another brand VCR?
I think I have narrowed my choice down to the solid state RCA unit , and
the compact JVC unit, but I'm not sure yet.
Anyone have any suggestions ??ron@brl-vgr.ARPA (Ron Natalie <ron>) (03/29/84)
If you don't have autofocus, an electronic finder on the camera is a must, I just can't handle focusing an optical viewfinder. -Ron

Do not get a MOS camera pickup if you tend to do pictures indoors without
special lights. These pickups are not as light sensitive as many tubes
(30-40 lux min. vs. 10 lux min., I think).
Review seems useless to me. I have it, and I never use it.
Auto-focus is a must. Who wants to continuously focus a camera as they track
a moving target?

You need to adjust a hard-to-reach switch on the bottom of the Hitachi to make them compatible, though. Thank technology for the auto focusing --- or else, how do you keep a 2-year-old kid still for more than 5 seconds??
