In all modesty, I predicted the commercial failure of the non-laser videodisk systems even before they were widely announced. It just seemed like a lot of money to pay for a unit with limited capabilities and no record functionality. On the other hand, the laserdisk versions seem to have established a pretty good place for themselves in industrial and some commercial interactive applications, and have a better chance of surviving, even without the ability to record. --Lauren--
