The answer to this seems obvious to me but before I go through all the trouble. Does anyone know of any technical reason why I might not be able to tape a Beta tape, thru a Beta type VCR of course, onto a VHS recorder? It is for personal use of a home-made tape so save your legal type flames please ! Thanks, Ken Kvidahl ..!whuxk!ken

Copying a tape from a Beta machine to a VHS machine should cause no difficulty. What you are passing between the two is a standard video signal which is independent of the tape format. However, it's a good idea to use a "video stabilizer/enhancer" when copying tapes of any kind to reduce dropouts, color washout, and synch problems. -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish

#R:whuxk:-6300:uok:9100002:000:568 uok!dwhitney Jul 5 13:47:00 1984 There is no difference in copying Beta to VHS any more than there would be from VHS to VHS or Beta to Beta. Just be sure to use a good-quality (gold- tipped generally work best) stereo cables for connection between the two, and, a silly as it may seem, tape the new copy at the fastest speed..it makes the picture better. (In other words, destination recorder should be at the shortest recording length.) Also, what Mr. Fishell in the last message suggested about the enhancer is really a necessity for really good copying.. David Whtney ctvax!uokvax!uok!dwhitney

<for all you do, this one's for you> Gold tipped? Gimmie a break! In all my years of dealing with both RF and plain audio, I've never had to resort to gold plated connectors. That's just marketing hype. (Now, I wouldn't pass up Teflon PL259 connectors... :-) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Louis A. I don't think Teflon makes a good contact. -Ron
