With my Beta SL-2700, I can have it unplugged for at least two hours and it'll
keep the time and timer settings. Your JVC can probably last as long. (This
two-hour time has been tested, BTW).

All following quotes from Steve Upstill

The Sony SL-2700 has both MPX and 2X sound (and because of the recording method
for the Hi-Fi audio that Sony uses, the pitch remains the same, so you don't
get the "Alvin and the Chipmunks" syndrome on the 2X sound). Of ocurse, the 2700
is as rare as hen's teeth these days, so good luck finding one. I haven't looked
at any other manufacturers' BHF models (Aiwa, NEC, Toshiba, et al.), so I can't
say what they have as features. At any rate, I believe that Sony makes an add on
multiplexer for use with stereo tv broadcasts.

I haven't had any first-hand experience with the Proton monitor, but from all
that I've heard, it is the best on the market, with Sony close behind. In fact,
I get a kick out of Proton's ads for their monitors, which say "Sorry, Sony".
The fact that they are "apologizing" for being better than Sony to me is a
good plug for Sony by indicating that Sony has been thought of as the best. I
would probably go for one or the other except that (1) I don't currently have
the funds (a new car is on the top of my priority list), and (2) I'm waiting
to see how the digital tv's turn out.
