I am preparing to purchase a video camera and am looking for advice. I presently own a RCA model VJP900 (1983) recorder. After brief talks with dealers I have heard that only RCA and Hitachi models are (fully) compatible with my recorder. As the dealer I talked with carried only two RCA models I am trying to find information about other compatible models. In addition to discovering which models to choose from I would like to hear from people with cameras--a brief description of the camera and how you would rate the camera. I also looked at one model (RCA's again) which had replaced the tube with a chip instead. It was more expensive than models of similar capability. One function I would like to have is the ability to output a single frame. As far as I know none of the current standard models can do this. It seems that the ones using the chips as optical sensors rather than tubes should be able to do this (similar function to the optical mice). Does anyone know if this capability exists or will exist in the near future? Finally, the one thing that stuck out in my mind after talking with the dealers was that model life is very short. New models come out all the time and old ones are phased out in weeks/months rather than years. If anyone knows what the trends are in the video camera market, I'd like to hear. I will post remarks from owners of video cameras and I will summarize the other commentaries if there is enough interest. Brad Hemminger UNC Chapel Hill ...!mcnc!unc!bmh
