[net.video] VHS Hi-Fi problems?

lionel@orphan.DEC (Steve Lionel) (08/28/84)

I thought that the following might be interesting in light of the questions
about VHS Hi-Fi's possible problems.

I picked up the 1985 Radio Shack catalog the other day. The inside front
cover shows off their new Beta Hi-Fi VCR, and a couple of BHF tapes (MTV
excerpts). I find this particularly interesting in light of the fact that
their previous VCRs have been VHS only. It appeared that the new one was
a variant of the Sanyo 7200.

Later, I stopped into another Radio Shack and mentioned my observation.
He said that there could be a number of reasons why RS didn't introduce
a VHS Hi-Fi unit, such as the supplier didn't have one. But Radio Shack's
VCRs are made by Sanyo, who also make Fisher VCRs, and there is a Fisher
VHS Hi-Fi unit. Then the salesman said he had his own theories on the
subject. I asked if one of them was based on the possibility that VHS
Hi-Fi machines just don't work? He said "Yes."

This doesn't prove anything, but I'm another happy Beta Hi-Fi (SL-2700)
customer who hopes that VHS falls on its face with this.
