I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to drop me a line and give their opinion of the different Beta Hi-Fi VCR's out there. It was of great help to me in choosing my machine (a SONY SL-2710), and I thank you very much. A brief summary of the responses I got, for those of you who may be considering the purchase of just such a device: The three models I had enquired about (after reading reviews for the first two) were the NEC VC-739E, the SONY SL-2700 and the SONY SL-2710. While most of the reviews pointed to the 2700 as the best machine Beta Hi-Fi machine on the market (no one seems to dispute this), the 2710, which had earlier been described as a bottom-line Beta deck with Hi-fi slapped on, was said by many to be as good in video and audio quality as the 2700. It lacked many of the features of the 2700 (slow-motion and reverse viewing in particular, as well as a camera jack), but had more events in memory for recording shows, as well as more cable channel accessibility; the 2710 appealed to me more as a machine to record programs on (with a Betastack thrown in), as I was not as interested in the swing shift and slo-mo functions. The NEC got high marks in the VIDEO magazine review, but many people on the net pointed out that they used four heads to do what SONY did with two, and why bother? Anyway, thanks again; the help was appreciated. "The bigger they are, the nicer they are..." Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc.
