Since L.A. SelecTV runs their tapes locally, the most likely problem is (apparently severe) videotape dropouts, which their local timebase corrector is grabbing (and freezing) as it is supposed to do in such situations. --Lauren--

How about satellite transmission problems? A smart downlink might freeze the last good frame if it started getting lots of CRC errors. -- Geoff Kuenning Callan Data Systems ...!ihnp4!wlbr!callan!geoff

Hey people: ANY sort of substantial glitch in the video will result in the timebase corrector grabbing the last frame and holding until the signal clears up. This has nothing to do with satellites; it can happen with any video signal passing through a TBC. Since L.A. SelecTV has nothing whatever to do with satellites, that sorta lets out the "satellite theory"... --Lauren-- P.S. By the way, while it isn't widely know, L.A. ONTV (about 250,000 subscribers) has been bought out by L.A. SelecTV (About 45,000 current subscribers or something like that). They will both operate concurrently for one year. What happens after that is less clear. --LW--

I have been seeing the same sort of problem on several PBS broadcasts lately, so I support the satellite theory. Raan Young (hp-pcd!raan -- Oregon)
